Children’s Salt Heritage Art Competition

Here’s what Northwich and District Heritage Society have to say about this lovely event they ran recently in partnership with local schools.

“At the end of 2015, the Northwich & District Heritage Society invited primary schools in the Northwich area to enter artwork depicting any aspect of Northwich’s salt industry heritage.  Four schools decided to take part; Barnton Community Primary School, Great Budworth C of E Primary School, Lostock Gralam C of E Primary School and Witton Church Walk C of E Primary School.  By the closing date in March, we had nearly 300 individual entries.

These were overall of a very high standard, and covered a very wide variety of techniques and subjects. The sheer range of techniques – both traditional and innovative – and the wide ranging and remarkable subjects chosen made the job of the judges very challenging. However, after much discussion and consideration, the following entries were chosen to receive the prizes: http://heritage.northwich-heritage.org.uk/

We hope that they help us to pick a theme to communicate to the younger generation to inspire them about the importance of salt to the chemical industry legacy, and to present everyday life.”

Photographs of the original pictures are being shown on continuous loop on a screen in Northwich Library – go and check them out!
