The Weaverham Trust have created two new guided walks for their local area which will be launching on Saturday 16th September .
Known as ‘The Petal Walks’, they consist of a two circular walks : one of two miles exploring Weaverham, Bottom Pitch Meadow and Owley Wood, and another of four miles exploring Weaverham and Acton Bridge.
The project has been made possible with funding from the National Lottery’s Heritage Lottery Fund through the Saltscape Landscape Partnership, and is part of the ‘Greener Way’ project. This is a long term plan aimed at enhancing the natural and built environment of Weaverham and the surrounding areas.
Saul Burton from Saltscape said, ‘Like the Saltscape trail in nearby Northwich Woodlands, the Petal Walks explore the important links between the area’s natural landscape features and the industry and communities that have shaped this special area of Cheshire.
We’re delighted that all the hard work by local volunteers in compiling the trails and in caring for their local landscape can now be celebrated and shared with visitors and local people exploring the area.’
Paul Nolan, Director of the Mersey Forest Trust will introduce the Petal Walks at the launch on Saturday 16th September. The family walk will begin at Acton Bridge Parish Rooms at 11:00 and will finish at Bottom Pitch Meadow, off Owley Wood Road in Weaverham.
The route will go via St Mary’s church in Weaverham, where people who would prefer to begin in Weaverham can join. The group hope to arrive at Bottom Pitch by 12:30pm where you can buy a packed lunch (or bring your own). Tea & Coffee will also be available in the Owley Wood Scouts hall where a bouncy castle and face painting will also be available.
